What makes this hotel special is its fascinating origins and nod to it, with the new services at the spa. In 1929, Alfonso XIII inaugurated the Maritime Sanatorium of San Juan de Dios, a sanctuary for wellness was built to accommodate patients with respiratory difficulties since the area is well known for the beneficial properties of sunlight, which was used as light therapy for tuberculosis, and level of iodine content in the water. Today, the hotel has a spa dedicated to making guests feel at ease, renewed and rejuvenated, all complemented by a sensational stay and luscious gardens. During our stay, we particularly enjoyed strolling along the beach promenade and exploring the nearby fishermen’s houses. Imbibing the local atmosphere, we relished the opportunity to sip a refreshing vermouth among the friendly locals, immersing ourselves in the authentic Catalan culture.
