HOTEL PULITZER BARCELONA

Barcelona is buzzy, bustling, exciting, and a mecca for all things art, history, and gastronomy. For this reason, you may find it surprising that, when visiting, we recommend an ideal haven right by Plaza Catalunya. Hotel Pulitzer is tucked away down the side street of Bergara, off the square. The neat 4-star hotel with its discreet façade always seems to have something happening, making it a great option as a Barcelona base. Rooms are comfortable and ooze flair, thanks to interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, who puts a firm stamp on punchy colours and sophistication.

OUR STORY

OUR STORY

We previously stayed at the hotel nine years ago, and it is more than fair to say that it has had quite the facelift since then. The lobby remains a meeting point for Barcelona locals and tourists alike, and there’s a beautiful small patio overflowing with plants and an impressive rooftop terrace garden, with live concerts and DJ sessions that have become established as benchmarks in the summer months. Although the Barcelona hotel has 91 rooms, it doesn’t feel like it. There is a cosy element due to the hotel is design, with several spaces for lingering, working, or relaxing in various parts of the building.

Breakfast is served in their leafy in-house restaurant, The Greenhouse. There are good morning selections, but we recommend returning for lunch or dinner. Plants dangle from the ceiling and beautifully adorn the space with charming distressed wooden furniture, mirrors, planters on top of cupboards, and a long wooden table upon entry. This is the place if you want to eat something other than tapas and are keen to opt for healthy food. A menu del día (menu of the day) can be taken advantage of with three dishes and a drink for less than 18 euros. Many locals in “the know” often dine here for the excellent value and quality. Enjoy a glass of wine in the late afternoon / early evening before tucking it into mouthwatering dishes.

After a long day exploring new finds and visiting newly opened cultural landmarks, our Pulitzer View room was exactly what we needed. We had a balcony looking out onto Carrer de Bergara, which, although small, was pleasant to have a drink on before heading out. An oversized headboard is quite a feature in the room, as are the pieces of art mounted on the walls. Cool greys teamed with wood from the panelled floor give a sense of elegance while remaining somewhat relaxed. The bathroom is bold with bright turquoise tiles and has a shower to keep you refreshed and invigorated. This hotel is excellent because it is central, kid-friendly, pet-friendly, and offers guests various services.
