Hotel Brummell is that extra buzz in the least expected part of Barcelona: quirky, unique and spot-on in the residential neighbourhood of Poble Sec, where you have the city, mountains, and sea close by. Upon entering the hotel, you may feel the need to slap yourself, as the psychosomatic reaction will leave you wondering why this multi-faceted concept was never done before in the first place. Expect a lot of light and plants concerning the traditional from the hands of the Australian-born Barcelona duo, Blankslate, whose use of bespoke modern furniture mixed with Sri Lankan and European antiques nicely sets it apart from other hotels.
Christian Schallert owns Hotel Brummell. He started in the apartment rental business five years ago when a close friend eyed an abandoned building in the Poble Sec neighbourhood. Taking matters into his own hands, Christian saw the potential and bought the space to give it its current revamp.
The hotel was built and designed to the full extent of its potential. It was fashioned to make guests feel relaxed, discreet, and solely multi-purposed, and it works because Hotel Brummell superbly pairs hotel amenities and services with a vibe that makes you feel like you live there. The original façade of the building has been kept as it was since 1870, just transforming the interior completely. The architect, Inma Rábano, worked with them to rehabilitate this historic building and re-inject some new energy into the area.
