HOTEL BRUMMELL

Hotel Brummell is that extra buzz in the least expected part of Barcelona: quirky, unique and spot-on in the residential neighbourhood of Poble Sec, where you have the city, mountains, and sea close by. Upon entering the hotel, you may feel the need to slap yourself, as the psychosomatic reaction will leave you wondering why this multi-faceted concept was never done before in the first place. Expect a lot of light and plants concerning the traditional from the hands of the Australian-born Barcelona duo, Blankslate, whose use of bespoke modern furniture mixed with Sri Lankan and European antiques nicely sets it apart from other hotels.

Christian Schallert owns Hotel Brummell. He started in the apartment rental business five years ago when a close friend eyed an abandoned building in the Poble Sec neighbourhood. Taking matters into his own hands, Christian saw the potential and bought the space to give it its current revamp.

The hotel was built and designed to the full extent of its potential. It was fashioned to make guests feel relaxed, discreet, and solely multi-purposed, and it works because Hotel Brummell superbly pairs hotel amenities and services with a vibe that makes you feel like you live there. The original façade of the building has been kept as it was since 1870, just transforming the interior completely. The architect, Inma Rábano, worked with them to rehabilitate this historic building and re-inject some new energy into the area.

OUR STORY

Expect surreal comfort in the 20-room hotel, with additional contemporary art projects serenading the walls of every room, paying homage to local creative heads. In addition to the hotel rooms, Brummell also has 2 (80 m2) apartments. Each has three bedrooms with double beds and two bathrooms with tubs—full kitchen, private balconies and terraces, and hotel pool and sauna access. If you get hungry while everyone is asleep, there is a fair selection of healthy and unhealthy items to satisfy your cravings. Alongside the snacks, they also offer some other valuable items that may be useful.

Barcelona without a bike? The city is excellent for sightseeing by bike, and more bike lanes have been implemented, making it even easier. The hotel offer bike rental services, and not just any, we’re talking classy Brompton bikes. We recommend cycling the quiet mountain of Montjuïc and visiting the Teatro Grec (Greek theatre), MNAC museum, and Miró Foundation, heading to the centre; of course, you’ve got to make it beachside. Plaza España is just two metro stops away from the hotel, and the famous Las Ramblas is 15 minutes walking distance from the hotel. They also collaborate with THE GARAGE, a studio set up by former model-turned-yoga-guru Veronica Blume. Guests can take advantage of the classes, while locals and businesses can rent the space for special occasions and meetings.

The on-site contemporary restaurant offers fresh, seasonal, and local food. It is worth noting that they are responsible for serving up poolside snacks and in-room bento boxes and treats.
