HOTEL BORNETA

Situated in the charismatic El Born neighbourhood of Barcelona, Hotel Borneta represents the harmonious marriage of contemporary aesthetics and local charm. A part of the Miiro brand, this boutique hotel invites travellers to immerse themselves in the Mediterranean spirit through design, cuisine, and community connections. From its rooftop views of Parc de la Ciutadella to its socially inviting spaces, Borneta sets the standard for a city escape that feels like home.

Under the artistic direction of James Thurstan Waterworth, Hotel Borneta underwent a transformative renovation post-2020, incorporating sustainable materials and local artistry. The aesthetic is warm yet sophisticated, balancing modern touches with a nod to Barcelona’s heritage. The 92 rooms range from classic to terrace suites, each thoughtfully curated with Spanish antiques, vibrant art, and cosy balconies. The rooftop, featuring an eye-catching sculpture by local artist Pilar Zeta, offers a plunge pool and stunning city views—perfect for a sunset moment.

OUR STORY

OUR STORY

Unlike the impersonal feel of larger hotels, Borneta replaces the traditional reception with a lounge where staff are always ready to assist. The vibe is definitely cosy, with art and design consistent throughout. The lounge area features a eye-catching display by Chidy Wayne. Hotel floors have interesting light fixtures, mixed heritage furniture are in the neatly appointed rooms, and even the toilet seats have scalloped edges. It’s all so subtle, yet impressive.

The hotel’s beating heart is Volta, its flagship restaurant helmed by Executive Chef Andrea de Benedictis. Mediterranean flavours shine in dishes crafted with seasonal, sustainable ingredients. Whether it’s the refined Sunday brunch with live vinyl DJ sets or the farm-to-table à la carte offerings like pumpkin carpaccio and organic truffle egg, Volta is as much a local favourite as it is a guest highlight.

We love the Gallery, a serene corner for relaxation. The perfect nook to enjoy a cocktail or two or divulge in some not-so-public tales with a friend. The intimate rooftop space complements the neighbourhood vibe, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely evening overlooking Barcelona’s skyline.

Hotel Borneta transcends its role as a place to stay, offering a vibrant community atmosphere where locals and guests converge. We witnessed an elderly couple drinking coffee and reading the newspapers, and you’ll find locals enjoying the weekly lunch menu, giving people a good excuse to return. Its location under the iconic Porxos de Fontseré arches makes it a gateway to El Born’s art, boutiques, and history. It’s a boutique hotel that feels intrinsically tied to its neighbourhood, offering a genuine slice of Barcelona’s lifestyle.
