INDULGENCE DIVINE

In short, Indulgence Divine is a Romantic 16th-century accommodation for two, nestled in Vittoriosa, Malta. If you want to experience living in a converted traditional Maltese house, this is the place for you. Located just behind the Inquisitor’s Palace in one of The Three Cities, the house is approximately 450 years old, and an incredible history surrounds you. Owned by Gattaldo and his partner, the duo has managed to transform the beautiful Maltese townhouse into a contemporary spot in the middle of local life. The pace is slow, the people are friendly, and the area is unashamedly authentic.

Guests staying at the property will see nods to its previous history, as maritime graffiti in the bedroom indicates that the house was previously a merchant’s residence. The muted palette of the washed walls makes for a perfect backdrop for the bountiful array of colours from the curtains, sofa, and other statement designer pieces. Indulgence Divine exudes sheer eclecticism. It’s bold and quirky, not for the faint-hearted, seamlessly juxtaposed with classicalism.

OUR STORY

OUR STORY

Upon entering the townhouse, you immediately know that you’ve stepped into somewhere special, situated on a very normal and unassuming street. The light beams through, and you have the steps that take you to the first floor, which is the main living area. The attention to detail is immaculate. Full instructions, such as where to locate and use items, lists of recommended places to eat, and notes from the guests, were all provided. Besides the breakfast box, this exceeded our expectations for self-catered accommodation. Those staying can expect a local goat’s cheese, cereal, jam, seasonal fruit, Maltese water crackers, tea and coffee.

The main living room boasts real design features, including the curvy legs of the marble table and the statement open wardrobe – almost too pretty to put your clothes in. You’ll also find a magnificent chandelier and opulent curtains in the open space. Adjacent to this is the bedroom, a chapel at the house in its heyday. This was one of our favourite spaces because you could view the main area and see this antique Indian batik tapestry hanging on the wall. This is topped off with the Art Nouveau bed, elegantly lined with a canopy featuring the Hieronymus Bosch fantasy scene.

The romantic fantasy continues with an ensuite bathroom with double showers and glass mosaic tiles. The house features a spiral staircase that takes you to the upper levels. The mezzanine level is focused more on entertainment. Here, you have a lounge sofa with a TV, books, design magazines for perusal, and beams of light from the outdoor terrace. From here, you can enter the rooftop, a sublime spot on a sunny day, for a glass of wine or plan your stay in Malta.
