The Lust Series - Casa Chinchilla

We were fortunate to discover Chinchilla at the All Those Market held in Barcelona late last year. We went intending to buy presents and ended up purchasing gifts for ourselves. The weavings by Luna Muñoz immediately stood out from other stall-holders. You'll find beautifully textured weavings on items you wouldn't necessarily expect, such as purses and iPad covers. You can, of course, order beautifully crafted hangings, which you can order upon request. It is also worth mentioning that Chinchilla now offers an online weaving course in Spanish (English coming soon), so if you'd like to learn how to create some items for yourself, sign up. Below are a few questions we ask the stylish woven brand, to find out more.

Where are you from?

I am from Barcelona.

What is your design background?

I have zero design background! I wanted to be an actress, so all my studies were focused on my acting career.

What made you start designing?

I have always been attracted to weaving, I always had it in my mind. When my first child was born, I knew for sure I didn't want to do another casting in my life! I tried a weaving class, and I felt at home, at last. I have been trying crafts all my life, but this was the first time that I felt that this was it. It was instant love. Since that day I have been doing it.

What inspired you to launch Chinchilla?

After a year of weaving at home, I had a lot of weavings at home, a lot! And I started to feel that my product was good. I had a real desire to show it to the world and sell it. People having one of my weavings in their walls was an idea that made me super happy. Also, my boyfriend knew how to do me an awesome web page, and that made it easy to start.

How would you describe Chinchilla in 3 words?

Funky, happy and imperfect.

You often work with mixed materials, what are your favourite pieces?

For the last year, I have been doing cushions and bags, choosing different fabrics (especially loving African wax), and that is something that I am loving and would love to explore further. Turning weavings into other things is something super cool and creative, now I want to do iPad and computer cases!

What inspires you?

Truth is absolutely everything inspires me, nature, food, children's books, travels, films, art, it only depends on how open I am that day to see the beauty that surrounds us and to let myself absorb it all.
