Seventy Barcelona is an initiative founded by the Barcelona-embraced group Núñez i Navarro Hotels, also known as NNhotels, a Spanish-based hotel chain with twelve properties and one luxury apartment in the city. The elegance of Seventy Barcelona is largely thanks to the results of a compelling partnership that includes interior designers Luis Bustamante and Rosa Rosselló, and architects Carlos Ferrater and Xavier Martí of the architectural office OAB. Together, these professionals yielded the six-story hotel, with painstaking attention to details and a myriad of spaces for both locals and visitors to enjoy. The hotel has a kinship with the city, blending the classicism of a Mediterranean guest house and categorical modernity.

The hotel has one of the best locations in the city for exploring top sites. Set between Eixample & Gràcia neighbourhoods, you are walking distance from one of the main shopping and business areas, Passeig de Gràcia, and surrounded by a plethora of Modernist architecture. It’s also the perfect spot for getting to know the locals, with Gràcia neighbourhood housing traditional stores, bodegas, markets, bookstores and more.

OUR STORY

Upon entering the hotel, we were in awe by the number of spaces that make up the compelling entrance. It’s discreet yet has a significant impact, colourful yet pristine. Bookshelves cherish the walls of the entrance, which is abundant in space and punctuate with colourful seating and flora throughout. A fireplace on one side of the hotel creates a sense of cosiness and is perfect for reading a book with a coffee mid-morning or a drink before meeting others. Both locals and guests work from the high tables nestled under the ornate light fixtures in the foyer. The reception makes quite the entrance, with its high ceiling, branded back wall and space. There is no stuffiness, rigid desk setup or traditional lounge chairs. Instead, it’s very much driven by the team, with an effortless and relaxed approach.

There is a digital approach to the hotel, which doesn’t take away from the human and personal touch. For example, the menu on the TV, easy screen-mirroring, menu for dining in and other services could all be accessed easily from the TV. The bathroom is a good size for a couple or small family and is well-positioned with a small seating area beside the vanity area before the actual shower. All 152 soundproofed rooms feature free Wi-Fi and room service. Guests will also find flat-screen TVs, hairdryers, and laptop-compatible safes. We are convinced that a big advantage is the eco and organic Seventy Spa on the lower floor. The hydromassage, dry sauna and steam room is an ideal haven after exploring and eating your way through the city.

Dining at the hotel is fantastic. Not only is it room-service efficient and well presented, but it’s also delicious. However, it is worth heading downstairs to get the full experience. The space is stylish with rich blue upholstered chairs and glistening brass fixtures and overlooks a patterned patio lined with trees. The open kitchen has a long wooden table at the back and food at the front, for you to help yourself buffet-style at breakfast. We enjoyed the traditional butifarra sausages with toasted bread lavished with local tomatoes and a side of bacon. You’ll also find a selection of fresh juices, cakes, cheeses from local farms and more. It is like you are in a Catalan pantry. You can enjoy a modern lunch accompanied by live performances on the weekend, think modern Mediterranean cuisine. We enjoyed their truffle risotto, burrata and grilled lamb chops with romesco sauce.

Seventy Barcelona is absolutely the place to be, not merely to say that you’ve been to Barcelona, but to affirm that you’ve authentically experienced the city in its essence.
