URSO HOTEL & SPA

If you are seeking understated luxury in a central location in Madrid, yet somewhat secluded - Hotel Urso is the place to stay. The elegant 5-star establishment is strategically set between Chamberí, Chueca and the new up-and-coming Tribunal area. It has subtle touches of neo-classicism, thanks to the floral wallpaper that jostles for attention, doing justice to the 20th-century style of the building and decor. Architect and designer Antonio Obrador have beautifully restored the building whilst ensuring there is a welcoming feeling intact. What is extra special is the fact that local artisans contributed to the reconstruction, including an ironmonger, carpenter and vertical garden specialist.

The attention to detail at Hotel Urso is impressive, from the use of vintage photographs of Madrid in the 1920's and 1930's used to decorate the guest-rooms, azulejos tiles placed on the façade and classic furniture - making it a haven whilst in Spain's capital. The antique lift before you enter the hotel lobby is just magical with the cushioned seat and elaborate ironwork really setting the tone of the boutique hotel. This is complemented further by the classical stained-glass windows.

OUR STORY

The use of glass and wood in Hotel Urso is impressive. There are unexpected sloping angles from the grand staircase that takes you to the breakfast conservatory on the first floor which is flanked with mirrors adding elements to its unique flair. Breakfast in the conservatory is an experience within itself with the sunlight beaming through the decadent interior, and the staff providing a great service. Hot dishes a la carte, a selection of cold cuts, fresh juices, yoghurts and a buffet area is available for guests. The setting is elegantly serenaded with greenery and a glass roof that resembles that of a greenhouse. In the event that you would rather have something quick and easy before venturing out into the city, there is also the option of a light breakfast on the ground floor in the lounge area.

The sophisticated spa is a discreet and an excellent experience for travellers that want to unwind and in need of some self-care. Indulge in a hand-selected welcome amenity and rejuvenate either with a pre-booked beauty treatment and massage service or take advantage of the steam room and seven-metre hydromassage pool. There is just the right amount of natural light paired with dark hues from the dark wood subtle beams of warm light throughout. Next to the spa is the fitness room that houses modern amenities, water bottles and extra towels for convenience.

Media Ración is a restaurant managed by the owners from successful restaurant Cuenllas. It is discreetly situated on the ground floor of the hotel and offers a variety of half rations intended to be shared. Foodies can either grab a bite at a high table or dine at a table in the dining room. The decor is elegant with a great use of glass and perfect for delicious informal dinners. Classics are plentiful such as ham and cheese croquetas, spicy potatoes, scarlet prawn tartare and then there are a variety of classic canned options to enjoy. We thoroughly recommend ordering the lemon cheesecake.
