URSO HOTEL & SPA

Hotel Urso is the place to stay if you seek understated luxury in Madrid’s somewhat secluded central location. The elegant 5-star establishment strategically connects Chamberí, Chueca, and the new up-and-coming Tribunal area. Thanks to the floral wallpaper that jostles for attention, it has subtle touches of neo-classicism, doing justice to the 20th-century building style and decor. Architect and designer Antonio Obrador has beautifully restored the building while ensuring an intact, welcoming feeling. Local artisans, including an ironmonger, carpenter, and vertical garden specialist, contributed to the reconstruction.

The attention to detail at Hotel Urso is impressive, from the use of vintage photographs of Madrid in the 1920s and 1930s to decorate the guest rooms, azulejos tiles placed on the façade, and classic furniture—making it a haven while in Spain’s capital. The antique lift before you enter the hotel lobby is just magical, with the cushioned seat and elaborate ironwork setting the tone of the boutique hotel. This is complemented further by the classical stained-glass windows.

OUR STORY

OUR STORY

The use of glass and wood in Hotel Urso is impressive. There are unexpected sloping angles from the grand staircase that take you to the breakfast conservatory on the first floor, flanked with mirrors, adding elements to its unique flair. Breakfast in the conservatory is an experience within itself, with the sunlight beaming through the decadent interior and the staff providing excellent service. Hot dishes a la carte, a selection of cold cuts, fresh juices, yoghurts, and a buffet area are available for guests. The setting is elegantly serenaded with greenery and a glass roof resembling a greenhouse. If you would rather have something quick and easy before venturing into the city, there is also the option of a light breakfast on the ground floor in the lounge area.

The sophisticated spa is a discreet and excellent experience for travellers who want to unwind and need some self-care. Indulge in a hand-selected welcome amenity and rejuvenate with a pre-booked beauty treatment and massage service, or take advantage of the steam room and seven-metre hydromassage pool. There is just the right amount of natural light paired with dark hues from the dark wood, with subtle beams of warm light throughout. Next to the spa is the fitness room, which houses modern amenities, water bottles, and extra towels for convenience.

Media Ración is a restaurant managed by the owners of the successful restaurant Cuenllas. It is discreetly situated on the hotel’s ground floor and offers a variety of half rations intended to be shared. Foodies can grab a bite at a high table or dine at a table in the dining room. The decor is elegant, with a great use of glass, and perfect for delicious informal dinners. Classics are plentiful, such as ham and cheese croquetas, spicy potatoes, and scarlet prawn tartare, and there are various classic canned options to enjoy. We thoroughly recommend ordering the lemon cheesecake.
