Renewed in 2010, this 40-rooms and 4 suites boutique hotel inspired by Miami’s South Beach has been shining the spotlight on the vibrant end of Ibiza Town. Ocean Drive Ibiza’s Miami art-deco style and scenic lounge terrace crystallises the hotel as a genuine representation of Ibizan culture, combining defying traditions with the island’s integrity. The hotel is opened all year round, with easy access to the island’s club scene as the famous Pacha is a mere 15 minutes walk away! For the calm and reclining days, the beautiful beach of Talamanca is a 2 minutes walk from the hotel, packed with chill-out spaces, restaurants and a long boardwalk that takes you to the quieter part of town.
First opened in 1999, Ocean Drive’s current owner Marc Rahola purchased the hotel and immediately began major renovations, which were completed in 2010. With his oceanside properties in Ibiza and Mallorca, Marc Rahola Matutes serves up authentic experiences through hotels that are gateways into a place and its way of life.
A seasoned expert in hospitality since childhood, Marc Rahola worked every imaginable position at his family’s hotel chain in the Mediterranean. Rahola Matutes is the founder and director of the Ocean Drive Group, which includes two hotels in Ibiza—one art-deco tower overlooking the yacht marina and another situated in the middle of an orange grove and organic farm just outside of town—as well as the stunning property in Portals Nous, Mallorca, OD Port Portals.
On the contrary, the role of the hotel, for Rahola Matutes, is not to contain people and absorb as large a fraction of their vacation budgets as possible. It is to connect people who have come to experience a place and a way of life to that place, to that way of life, to its defining experiences. “The hotel has to be an interface with its surroundings. The important thing is not to have a golf course. The important thing is to be able to have access to the best golf course. The important thing is to be connected to what the place has to offer.”
OUR STORY
Ocean Drive Ibiza is open all year round, catering to mostly an adult audience for its buzzing night scene and vibrant DJ sets. However, during the winter months there are events that attract a more local crowd for its inspiring events. Such is the case with Burger Meets Gin on Friday evenings (only during low season), it is a set menu for 23€ pp consisting of a gin tonic of your choice, a starter and two gourmet mini-burgers. It is the perfect after-work celebration with music backdrops by a weekly rotating set of DJs hosted by Daniela Biagetti. As the venue gets filled and the ambience louder, it turns into a full on party! In light of Ibiza’s legendary nightlife, the walls of each room have been soundproofed, offering guests a quiet and exceptionally private sanctuary that’s shielded from the island’s nonstop party scene.
Every Sunday from 1pm to 5pm, November to April, Ocean Drive Ibiza hosts their Mexican Brunch event. It combines a fresh mexican buffet with tasty cocktails and delicious music making for the best winter in Ibiza ever! The buffet costs 25€ and includes a drink. Expect to have genuine gourmet delights: tacos, enchiladas, chipotle caesar salad, Aztec style mini quinoa salad, chilli with meat and rice, nachos, guacamole and other worldly known dishes.
The hotel is inspired by the architecture of Miami’s South Beach and New York in the roaring twenties. Ocean Drive Hotel is close to Ibiza’s beautiful beaches, the famous Pacha nightclub, and the island’s “Old Town,” a UNESCO World Heritage site. The chill-out lounge terrace on the roof is open in the warmer months, serenaded with modern design seatings and retro neon lights. Expect high-profile DJs to blend in with the worldly citizens mingling amongst each other as Ibiza’s old town shines in the distance.
The hotel lobby and bar have been outfitted in new Mies van der Rohe and La Corbusier furniture. The floors are made from the finest marble and tribal accents around the communal spaces create a uniquely eclectic ambiance that differs from all of the other hotels in the area. Expect to see Archimedes lamps, Pepe Penalver’s designer textiles and Samy Masso’s Italian luxurious furnishings.
