It isn’t every day that you can lock yourself away surrounded by a former Roman wall in a medieval city and find yourself in an impressive rural house. We experienced this while spending a few nights in the stately, warm, rustic, yet beautifully balanced Alemanys 5 in Girona, Spain. Aptly named after the street, this house has been creatively split into apartments, allowing guests to rent the property or the two individual apartments themselves.
Anna Noguera, a renowned architect with a rather impressive body of work, and her husband Juan, responsible for the fantastic hospitality, initially embarked on this project when they decided to buy a vacation house. After much hard graft, renovations, and all the challenges that one would expect when converting a 500-year-old house into something that will work for families, couples and groups alike of the 21st century – Alemanys 5 was complete.
