TENUTA SAN PIETRO

Everything under the Tuscan sun that you ever dreamed of is a genuine reality in Lucca’s Tenuta San Pietro: the restaurant offers fine Italian food, the large outdoor swimming pool overlooks the Garfagnana Mountains and surrounding landscapes, and you will enjoy a breath of fresh air. Plump yourself among the immense countryside as you gawk into the rolling hills clustered with winding rows of cypress trees and picturesque vineyards. Nourish your inner Italian as you unwind in any of the ten individually styled bedrooms. This restored 16th-century country house ticks off all your boxes for your staycation.

Norwegian-born owners Peter and Cie Bahre have taken centre stage in the project to restore and revamp this former 16th-century country house. The three years’ work of landscaping and planning has dearly paid off, with an exceptional end result being Tenuta San Pietro. The former manor house is now a 4-star hotel with eight bedrooms, two suites, and a marvellous restaurant and bar, made elegant for hosting private parties and wedding celebrations.

The generous General manager, Gastone will go out of his way to ensure you have the best stay. The receptionist, Luisa, has been of great help in handling some of the inner house duties during our stay. The team is attentive to details and can provide the best information to this side of Tuscany.

OUR STORY

OUR STORY

Tenuta San Pietro’s restaurant is a reference on this side of Tuscany. The secret to the companion planting of grapes and olives lies in where they grow, and the hotel has done a great job of bonding the olive groves and vineyards to make their olive oil and embellishing the wine industry with their neighbours. Over 350 wine bottles can be chosen in the restaurant, most of which are from nearby wineries. Superb chef Guido runs the kitchen; he creates local dishes with flair. Some of his most commented dishes are the Mediterranean king prawns, pheasant with pomegranate sauce and decadent, pistachio-crusted veal (our favourite dish while in Tuscany) and homemade pasta with the stewed hare. The upstairs dining room, with views of the picturesque valley, is used for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The outdoor spaces also have chairs and tables to enjoy your meal, with the outdoor swimming pool tempting you to skinny dip. Cooking lessons can be booked with Guido and olive oil and wine-tasting sessions.

Book 24 hours in advance for the massage at the hotel. There are various types of treatments, all made using aromatherapy essential oils. As there is a culture of cycling and trekking on this side of Tuscany, de-constructing massages are in high demand. They are pure strength charges, crucial for solving problems related to contractures, sprains, and strains. Other massages are great for skin tones, circulation, lymphatic drainage, and respiration. Reactivate the body’s energy with these massages and connect with your inner being.

Barman Maitre Sommelier Gabriele Marchetti is a master of cocktail classes. His extensive international experience, creativity,, and skills make him the reference for this type of lesson. If you fancy yourself a photo workshop or art lessons, a local artist can be reserved as well. For the more active goers, Nordic walks, cycling, and hiking can be booked, as can a professional. Whatever your needs might be, make sure you ask the hotel beforehand, and they will be happy to arrange this for you.

Lucca’s Tenuta San Pietro is ideal for celebrating your dream wedding. The venue can accommodate 20 to 140 guests, either indoors or outdoors. The views are awe-inspiring, and the outdoor space is quite vast, so hosting a large event is perfect. There are hardly any vehicles passing by in the area, and the only sounds you may hear are the roosters in the mornings from the neighbouring houses.

In 2014, the hotel was included in the annual prestigious Condé Nast Johansens guide. This is a well-deserved accomplishment for the hotel, and we were happy to have a unique experience on this side of Italy.
