CANTO DEGLI SCALI

Canto degli Scali is a gently restored Florentine palace from the 14th century. It has well-preserved Italian frescoes, antique terracotta floors, and splendid furnishings produced by local craftsmen. The three-room and four-apartment complex, divided into different floors, is a testimony to how Renaissance history weaves its way through almost every aspect of Florentine life.

Brothers Marco and Alessio Ducceschi are the faces behind the business. They built strong ties with the local community during the restoration by keeping the project as provincial as possible. Furniture refurbishment and lamp restoration were just some of the tasks managed by locals. Such work has contributed to the charming property that stands today. From the hearts on the gate on the lower floor to the guest notebook, which is notes on a paper tree, and the exhibition in the reception area, no space is untouched by a sense of care.

OUR STORY

OUR STORY

To reach our apartment, we walked Via de’ Tornabuoni, a street characterised by high-fashion boutiques belonging to Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Pucci, and other designer brands. The property is a swift left at Piazza Santa Trinita and onto Via delle Terme, a beautiful narrow street that seems to have remained untouched for generations.

Our 53 sqm apartment was Canto alla Briga, paying homage to the corner of Via de’ Pepi and Via dell’Agnolo, an area known for its hustle and bustle. Adorned with elegant cabinets and wardrobes, pleasant hues of colour combinations and large decadent prints, it is effortless to settle in. The charming apartment is comfortable and carefully considered, with space to lounge around cosily.

The sounds of people going about their morning routines immediately immerse you into life in Florence. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the kitchen by the window, allowing you to see some of the day’s activities. In the kitchen, while starting the day with a biscotti and espresso, we looked through the personal suggestions given to us by one-half of the property owner, Alessio. The apartment has an electric kettle, a coffee machine with plenty of Nespresso machines, a toaster, and an oven. With these amenities, you have all you need to make the essentials.

No two rooms are the same at this Florentine guesthouse. Each has their own sense of character, which is led by the space they encompass and then lovingly brought to life with the decor. For example, the Canto del Giglio Rosso boasts a four-poster bed, while the Canto Ramerino boasts picture walls and a decadent headboard in the main bedroom. Canto degli Scali embodies pure Florentine hospitality. Their units allow guests visiting Florence to experience city life in a beautifully restored palazzo. It’s an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed.
