La Menagere - Florence's divine "concept restaurant"
It isn't everyday that you stroll past a pretty and distressed building, with a long rustic table exposed in one window, a florist, tables and chairs to eat outside, a restaurant and café. This is exactly what happened when we stumbled upon La Menagere. We've seen some concept shops in our time, but this heavenly space - that sprawls approximately 1500 sqm over 2 floors, makes an exclusionary statement amidst the others. At the epitome of cosmopolitan it is the kind of place where you can pick up some flowers and indulge in the coffee culture, and later have dinner to only enjoy the late hours of your evenings with music on the lower floor.
Upon entering the hip, bistro-like cafe, you may think it is just another of Florence's coffee outbreaks, but when you explore a little further you will discover other spaces that are used to the max. For example, the shop is discreet, with little signage and just showcases a careful selection of bespoke items. This is opposite the florist Ilaria, a neat and humble space where you can grab a bunch of your favourite blooms for your home. You can find this by the dining area that is adorned with concrete pendant and fibre glass lighting and hanging flower arrangements.
Visiting is most definitely an experience, and we hope to see Florence's new addition go from strength to strength. Design team q-bic architectural and design studio are behind the reform, which was heavily focused on keeping deliberate distressed details, exposed columns and more. La Menagere, the product of Massimo, Grazia, Luca, Angelo e Marco, was reworked using recycled and repurposed industrial materials. The attention to design is evident throughout, yet there is a perfect balance of informality that really seems to work. The staff is super friendly and the food is genuinely good: international, light and a fusion of dishes that are made up of ingredients that have been sourced locally, following the KM'0' trademark.
Food, flowers and shopping not enough? Get your dose of live music days in their music space, from Friday to Monday ever week. As we mentioned before, this isn't a one-stop shop and that's why we love it. If you're in Florence, head to La Menagere.
