HOTEL MIRLO BARCELONA

Hotels are abundant in Barcelona city, but there is something very strategic and exceptional about Hotel Mirlo Barcelona. Located in Sarriá, close to Tibidabo, the former house is set in a wealthy part of the city away from the hustle and bustle. It's discreet, and staying there makes you feel like a resident rather than a tourist, which is the hotel's secret weapon.

The Blackbird is a bird that enjoys the city and retires to its resting nest in the nearby gardens. It is the concept under which the hospitality of the Hotel Mirlo Barcelona is sustained; a hotel that connects with the client through the warmth of its treatment and facilities and hopes to welcome both locals and national and international clients in its refuge of comfort, tranquillity and exclusivity.

OUR STORY

Our stay at the hotel was for a birthday surprise, which didn't disappoint. It's opulent yet inviting, with several nods to history throughout the space. The hotel, which sits within the Macaya Tower, has a reception area that feels more like a cosy nook, and you enter the suites via the sun-drenched breakfast room. We stayed in a suite with a hammam with a waterfall shower effect, sauna and jacuzzi, giving you the best excuse to stay indoors. You read that right, a spa in your room.

Sixteen exclusive rooms and suites are available to book and cover five categories, including deluxe, deluxe superior, and suites. Their focus is on experiences rather than rooms, evident in the services and amenities guests can expect. Extras such as room service are available upon request.

The staircase in the main hall acts as a hub, a central element of the house and is closely linked to Daniel Sempere, the protagonist of The wind's shadow. We love the way the hotel embraces 'slow luxury'. After years of mega builds and hotel chains popping up left, right and centre in the city, it's refreshing to see a new style of stay resurrecting in assuming places in Barcelona that aren't just on the coast.

El Nido del Mirlo Restaurant serves exquisite starters, traditional dishes made with the best meat and fish and a careful selection of wines and spirits. Expect an intimate setting, with the hotel hosting up to thirty people. Diners can enjoy hake in green sauce with pouched egg and wild asparagus, Iberian pork with foyot sauce, portobello tartare and mini leeks, and an impressive well-curated winelist.

The hotel is a pleasant surprise, even for city dwellers like us, who have stayed at numerous Barcelona hotels. We'd recommend the hotel for an ideal staycation, a couple's escape, a small family vacation and a solo timeout.
