HÔTEL SEEKO’O

This design hotel has been humbly excusing itself for well over a decade for continually verbalising its genuine pulchritude. The sleek, white façade of the Seeko’o Hotel stands out among all the other buildings near the dockland area of Bordeaux. The 45 rooms and suites make the premises small enough to receive the youthful, polite attention of staff and big enough to supply you with all of the facilities expected of a 4-star stay. Furthermore, the hipness doesn’t get in the way of comfort, as every room is quite on point with contemporary factors and spoilt choices of amenities, with rooms having round beds or king-sized mattresses. The Les Hangars tram stop is on the doorstep, with cultural gems such as the Cap Sciences museum (walking distance) and the Opera National, which are an easy commute away.

In order to create the desired “iceberg” effect, architect Jean-Christophe Masnada, of the Atelier d’architecture King Kong, had the idea to develop a façade made from DuPont™ Corian® solid surface. While the material’s aesthetic and performance qualities made it a clear choice, an exterior cladding process such as this had never been done before. Seeko’o means “iceberg” or “glacier” in Inuit, and from the start, this was an unusual and adventurous concept.

OUR STORY

OUR STORY

The 45 rooms have been designed in open, loft-type spaces (ranging from 29 to 55 m2), without neglecting the practical en-suite bathroom and dressing area. You will be spoilt with free services here; for instance, the continental breakfast can be brought to your room (from 7 a.m. – 10 a.m.), and the relaxation centre is included in the room rate. We used the sauna and steam room without having to reserve them before our stay. The best thing was not having to change out of our morning robe on Sunday as we tucked into the 4th floor to enter the relaxation centre.

Our room number 410 was rather impressive, exuding nothing but contemporary design – with its stretch black glossy ceiling, pristine white walls, and sleek design elements. Expect comfy beds (some even round in a selection of the rooms), perfect after pretty walks along the Garonne and through the Chartrons district after sightseeing. The hotel’s reception sells tram tickets upon request. Noteworthy on the 5th floor is the stunning Panoramic suite: Discover the breathtaking view of the new bridge ‘Jacques Chaban-Delmas’ and the Bordeaux Maritime from this spacecraft.

Breakfast was a mix of all nationalities. There was fresh bread and croissants, fresh fruit, you could boil your egg yourself to get it as you wanted, pancakes, French cheese, and more. From 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., you can enjoy your breakfast in your room free of charge. For those wanting to enjoy the later hours at the hotel, the first floor has a chic bar with red and green lights, a wooden floor, coloured sofas, and sophisticated armchairs.
