Casa Cedo

Casa Cedo has opened on Rua de Cedofeita, a few steps from the Miguel Bombarda creative district, inside a restored 19th-century townhouse. Massimiliano Salè and Jeremiah Healy, an Italian and an Irishman who met on Mykonos, spent years searching for a building that could hold their shared vision before finding this one in 2019. Architect Joana Leandro de Vasconcelos worked with heritage specialists AOF to preserve its stonework, stucco and antique tiles, adding only a top floor and converting a near-ruined outbuilding into what is now the property’s dining workshop.

Interiors by Quiet Studios take their cue from the back patio, a garden of decaying and exuberant plants in equal measure. Earthy, saturated tones run through the communal spaces, offset by sculptural furniture made largely with local collaborators, among them Giovanni Michelucci’s Torbecchia sideboard, reimagined as the lounge’s cocktail bar. Eight rooms and suites are spread across three floors, each named for a plant from Massimiliano’s well-thumbed copy of Florilegium: The Book of Plants, from Mandragora to Amaranthus, the largest at 45 square metres. The workshop, a glass-and-iron space in the old outbuilding, serves breakfast each morning and turns private dinner venue by night, seating 20 or standing 80, beneath a rooftop terrace looking down over a garden designed by botanical artist Toni Sastre.
