Iniala Valletta has announced its most significant expansion to date, one that repositions the property from a single-building luxury hotel into something more unusual: a collection of architecturally distinct properties threaded through the limestone streets of Malta’s capital. Valletta is a city we’ve returned to often, and this gives us good reason to look at it again.
Since opening Harbour House in 2020, Iniala has held its position as Malta’s only Forbes Five-Star hotel for five consecutive years and became the island’s first two Michelin Key hotel in 2024. The 2026 expansion builds on that foundation with three new additions: Solis, Magistero, and the FrancoMaria Suite, bringing 21 new keys to the collection.
Solis, designed by Madrid-based studio A-cero, opens on 17th July 2026. The nine-suite palazzo sits just behind the flagship, with a rooftop pool, a members’ club, and Anaalā, a rooftop restaurant by Thai chef Ian Kittichai. A-cero’s founders Joaquín Torres and Rafael Llamazares have worked with the building’s existing globigerina limestone, carving modern, sculptural spaces into millennial stone rather than layering over it. Each suite uses curated natural light to draw out the raw texture of the material. From the rooftop, the views stretch across the Grand Harbour to the Three Cities: the same fortified skyline, seen from a new vantage point.
On Republic Street, Magistero opens in October 2026 with eleven suites designed by Verter Turroni of Italy’s Imperfetto Lab. The approach here is more daring: every object in every room is a functional sculpture made specifically for the project, and no two rooms share the same pieces. Conventional televisions have been replaced entirely with Hisense laser projectors casting images across the walls, paired with Devialet speakers. It is, in every sense, a statement.
Magistero also introduces SiR by Simon Rogan, opening November 2026. Built around sharing plates in an Imperfetto Lab-designed dining room, SiR joins ION Harbour, Rogan’s two Michelin-starred restaurant already at Iniala, which continues to evolve under his increased on-site presence.
The FrancoMaria Suite, set within the original Harbour House, is named after the couple who lived in the space for sixty years. Sebastian Brajkovic and Greta Design have created bespoke furniture for the interiors, pairing marble flooring with blush accents to give the suite a distinctly residential quality.
September 2026 brings Within, a longevity and wellbeing concept developed in partnership with Saint James Hospital that integrates advanced diagnostics into the hotel offering. Meanwhile, the existing Vitalis wing (formerly Iniala Modern) is being refreshed, with five harbour-facing suites redesigned and a new cold plunge pool added.
The long-term ambition is to reach 90 rooms and five dining destinations by 2027, growing to 150 rooms by 2030, all woven through Valletta’s historic eastern quarter. Claudia Schwarze, formerly of Aman Venice and Amankila Bali, leads the operation as General Manager.
Rates at Harbour House and Vitalis start from €450 per night; Solis and Magistero from €700 per night, on a B&B basis.
