Mexican Chef Elena Reygadas Named The World’s Best Female Chef 2023

Elena Reygadas, the owner of Rosetta in Mexico City, has been named The World’s Best Female Chef 2023 by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023. A key figure in Mexican gastronomy, Reygadas is passionate about Mexican biodiversity and sustainable production. She also launched the Elena Reygadas Scholarship program for young gastronomy students in Mexico to promote greater gender parity in kitchens.

Rosetta is one of the best restaurants in the city, ranked No.60 on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list and No. 37 on the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list. The menu focuses on traditional Mexican dishes made with local seasonal ingredients from small producers.

Reygadas also runs the adjacent Rosetta bakery, supplying bread to many of Mexico City’s leading restaurants and the informal Mexican restaurant Lardo and the Café Nin bistro, both in the capital. Aside from her restaurants, she published her first cookbook in 2019, focusing on Mexican ingredients and traditions.

The World’s Best Female Chef 2023 award is the first of several awards announced before the award ceremony of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 in Valencia. The ceremony will be held at the Les Arts opera house on Tuesday, June 20.
