arthotel Blaue Gans is a 14th-century building located in the trendy museum district of Salzburg, Austria, which happens to be in the Old Town. Local artisans worked with the team to restore the beautiful building and reinject much love and care, to provide 35 rooms and suites throughout. Vaulted ceilings, bespoke baroque doors and exposed wooden beams with tales, grace the hotel. Owner Andreas Gfrerer has created a welcoming space which perfectly honours its surroundings. It is just across the road from the Festival Hall and the main shopping street Getreidegasse, making it a perfect base for a stay in what’s known as Mozart’s city.
Careful design resonates in each room, which features contemporary pieces in contrast to the period elements. The tones are neutral, the style is minimalist with warmth, and the layout is intentional. The most obvious are the soothing natural and raw materials used in the flooring or cabinetry. Lighting is practical and skilful, whilst the style is understated yet contemporary, showcasing the space at its finest. Satellite television, DVD players and Hi-Fi systems are available in all rooms.
Gasthaus, the in-house restaurant, is where a modern breakfast is served but is also open to the public for lunch and dinner service. Traditional dishes and contemporary offerings are served in a setting that is a reminder of yesteryears. This is in addition to the Bar Brasserie, a social place where people flock to enjoy appetizers, hip drinks and great music.
