Built in 1713 as one of the first grand residences in Stellenbosch, the iconic Coopmanhuijs at 33 Church Street underwent three years of painstaking renovation before emerging as the 5-star Coopmanhuijs Boutique Hotel & Spa in 2010. Since then, it has consistently ranked #1 on www.tripadvisor.com among all hotels in Stellenbosch. Coopmanhuijs was also awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2012, 2013 and 2014, placing it in the top 10% of hotels worldwide.

Upon entering the foyer at Coopmanhuijs, one is enveloped by a gentle, unpretentious fusion of contemporary design and classic approach, grounded in a respect for the organic and the real.

The first owner of the property (recorded in 1704) was Albertus Bartholomeus Coopman. The current neo-Georgian architecture of the manor house section dates from 1870 – 1900. Coopmanhuijs was proclaimed a South African National Monument in 1978.

At Coopmanhuijs, a sense of the history and charm of a bygone era is preserved and teamed with the creations of selected artists and skilled craftsmen. Combined with unexpected detail and quirky surprises in décor, the result is pure enchantment which simply delights.
