Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort, St Lucia, recently launched a brand new underwater breathwork programme – where wellness is beautifully paired with diving to create a therapeutic experience. Staff belonging to both the boutique resort’s wellness and diving areas have connected to deliver a programme to unlock the power of breathwork. In the surroundings of what lies in the picturesque ocean, all is elevated, enhancing the overall experience. The Underwater Breathwork Programme offers those experienced in diving, or wellness enthusiasts looking for a unique experience.
The programme starts with an initial briefing, based around a sunrise dive in calm and tranquil waters, in the early morning.
On the way to the dive site, a visualisation and mindfulness exercise takes place with a full briefing and demonstration of the breathwork used during the dive – consisting of four different breathing techniques to aid with mindfulness and buoyancy control.
The exercises are as follows:
-
The Yogic Breath – slow, deep, calm exhalations with a straight spine. Rhythmic patterns of slow deep breathing strengthen the respiratory system and soothe the nervous system
-
Nadi Shodhana – alternate nostril breathing for releasing blocked energy and helping to de-stress the mind and release accumulated tension and fatigue
-
Sheetali – breathing with a rolled tongue to cool the system, claimed to help lower blood pressure, stress and anxiety
-
Brahmari Pranayama – a breathing exercise that uses humming to increase nitrogen uptake. The technique is claimed to calm an agitated mind and relieve tension
The Underwater Breathwork programme starts from $180 per person, minimum age of 10 years old. The experience is 2.5 hours in total, with 45 minutes underwater.
The Rooms at Windjammer Landing start a US$266.00 per night with Villas starting at US$448.00.
