Venice - Italian rhapsody

Venice - Italian rhapsody

“Venice is a fish,” writes Tiziano Scarpa, “It’s like a vast sole stretched out against the deep. How did this marvelous beast make its way up the Adriatic and fetch up here, of all places?” Doesn't the prying view of a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges ever blow your mind?

The canals, bridges, churches and piazzos are breathtaking. Piazzo San Marco, Ponte Accademia and Dorsodoru island for the galleries and general art scene are just some of the gems that you must visit whilst there. The Burano vs. Murano vs. San Giorgio Maggiore overnight decisions is as ridiculous as not ever wanting to go back to the Venetician lagoon. Take your time to discover what most inspires you to come here and 'accidentally' see the treasures of this wonderful water world. In a place where cars are not allowed, there is going to be more excuses to lose yourself in every edge of town without interference.

Staying on Murano island, Italy is a great option for those happy to commute. The island is renown for its´ traditional glassblowing history and is a quiet and cute place with lots of charm. We would thoroughly recommend staying at The Murano Palace, which boasts the most fun loving and helpful staff! If you go, please tell Cesare we said 'hi'.

In addition to the islands, the Veneto region transforms itself when world-known Festivals and events are celebrated: Venice International Film Festival, Carnival and the Venice Biennale (a major contemporary art exhibition that takes place once every two years, in odd years). We were just in time for the Venice Biennale and were blossomed with so much art and creativity.

Besides the sights and galleries, is of course the food. The gastronomical aspect of Venice is a topic within itself, be prepared to eat some of the most incredible dishes. One of our favourite places to eat was at fusion Restaurant B on Murano island. The chef´s recommendation (and ours truly) is the mouthwateringly delicious Grand B fish plate, as are the salads and selection of meat dishes. Every day that goes by is another day we dream to go back.
