Fusion Tapas in Menorca

Restaurante Santa Rita

Two globetrotting entrepreneurs set up their own kitchen in the heart of Mahón, Menorca with an aim to offer worldly food to satisfy the mind, soul and palate. Both Alejo and Laura, owners of restaurant Santa Rita, have taken great measures to offer something out of the ordinary in the island, with a divine selection of multi-cultural cuisine under one roof.

We booked our reservation for a weekend night, as it is when the locals are most out and about in the city. A cheer electrifying ambience enlightens the late evening in the Plaza del Bastion's (Bastion Square) buzzy square, as it is lined up with restaurants and cafés with terraces. We may be getting ahead of ourselves here, but when dessert is as good as the main dishes, you know you have experienced something really special!

The warm ambience was serenaded with candles and soft lightings. Combinations of Mediterranean and Oriental dishes are in synch here, adding new flavours to experience. The owners are very well travelled individuals and have taken the best recipes from their ventures and combined them with Med touches to create inventive, fusion tapas dishes. We tried the '9 Steps Tasting Menu' with white wine to begin with. The Thai salad and green Vietnamese scampi rice prawns were the first dishes to meet our palate. The combination of sweet and salt were perfect for both dishes, with the prawns being firmly crunchy. Made with locally-sourced produce, the veal tataki in its fine curry and fennel roots and salmon skin was delicious. A symphony of tastes were experienced with the lamb with Moroccan breadcrumbs. The beef tongue steamed buns were delicious. For dessert we tried the matcha tea ice cream with white chocolate and a bowl of yogurt and strawberries with sweet Pedro Ximénez wine.

Many vegetarian options are available as well as gluten free bread. If you have any food allergies or intolerances, the chef will cater to your preferences. Our expectations were over-fulfilled, as the experience is to repeat. Santa Rita Bar is definitely on a top reference for restaurants to eat in Menorca.
