Ocaña D.F. - Barcelona

Ocaña D.F. Barcelona

Plaça Reial is one of those upbeat, feel-good, it's a great day kind of square in the heart of Barcelona, always pleasing to the tourists and leaving pleasant memories for the locals. The three story Café Ocaña happens to be smack in the middle of all the hype with rather glitzy looking signage allowing anyone in the square to spot it in a heart beat.

Café Ocaña has brought the essence up to date in a space which retains its original 1850s architecture; incorporating fine furniture in noble wood, chairs from the sixties and works by young contemporary artists in a multipurpose space that changes from day to night including: café, terrace, restaurant, club, Apotheke and the brand new addition being the Ocaña D.F. restaurant. With simple yet surprising cuisine, a selection of drinks that invites revelatory discoveries and a range of homemade syrups and bitters that takes us back to the craft origins of mixology, you will discover a new sense of palate here. This is the place where you can live the rhythm of the modern Barcelona that draws the masses to the city.

Ocaña D.F. is is the most funky of all spaces in the three story venue with elements of Mexican influences playing an important factor. The interior decor has been executed by Mexican artist Humberto Spindola with graffiti by Gerard Zlotykamien's, bold colours sprawled across a great space with several levels, which give the urban and hip place lots of character.

Like the venue itself, the creative cocktails based on Mezcal and Tequila are serenaded with some flavourful touches. The food is entirely Mexican and are an explosion of tasty delights. We first tasted the tomato salad graced with oranges, peanuts and cacao and lettuce tacos with cod fish, nuts and radish. We each tried a couple of Ocaña's famous cocktails, their Red Hot Chilli Pepper with lemon grass chilli infused tequila with lemon, vanilla syrup, sparkling wine and ginger beer kept us on edge all night! Expect magicians, clowns and all walks of life keeping you entertained at the table. The space is happy and full of life, perfect for a warm up spot before hitting the clubs until the sun comes back up again. Inject a little glamour into your life, this place is phenomenal!
