KOTI - The Travel Experience
KOTI: The Travel Experience That Delivers Hygge, Finland And Paris In Just One Night
Gone are the days of renting short-term corporate, minimalist apartments at pricey ranges. Adventure seeking fanatics are now able to experience the true essence of Finland on the Rive Gauche at KOTI – six unique Finnish cottages in the heart of Paris. This gives travellers the opportunity to engage in Finnish culture while enjoying a sophisticated, design apartment without having to transport to Finland.
Embracing the trend for ‘hygge’, and all things heart-warmingly Scandinavian, KOTI means ‘home’ in the Finnish language. Peeps staying at one of the six cabins will have the chance to enjoy traditional Finn hospitality, where a cosy combination of openness in a tranquil setting will be the perfect end to a day exploring the streets of Paris.
Conceived by designer Linda Bergroth, the Institut Finlandais will host sleepovers at KOTI for 100 days to celebrate 100 years of Finnish independence. Expect the best in Finnish-styled hospitality, creating a complete immersion in the spirit of Finland without having to leave Paris.
In addition to the sleepover experience, KOTI will also play host to a series of inspiring events throughout the 100 days, such as concerts and talks, film screenings and pop-up restaurant nights. The booking for sleepovers is hosted by Airbnb.
The six sleeping cabins have been optimised and designed to allow maximum privacy whilst keeping the genuine community feel, entertain a total of twelve people and open onto a shared space where there is a communal dining table and benches designed by architects Mattila & Merz. KOTI guests of a sociable disposition will enjoy getting to know their cabin neighbours, this pairs with the cabin entertainment package; complete with headphones, short films, documentaries, animations and Finnish travel guides by Visit Finland.
After a good night’s sleep, lamps by Innolux will ensure a gentle wake up with simulated natural daylight before enjoying coffee served in distinctive Piippu pots by Kaksikko. Expect all things Finnish for brekkie such as the rye bread mounted with salted butter and Finnish berries that will be provided by Food from Finland. This will be served on a custom-made ceramic tableware by Nathalie Lahdenmäki around the communal dining table.
Designer Linda Bergroth says, “In Finland, as in much of the rest of the world, home is where the heart is. But just as important to the idea of home comforts is the countryside cabin: frequent, refreshing visits to the cabin, often shared with family members, are considered an essential part of everyday life. Getting back to nature in a simple cabin, often without electricity or running water, can help us all to reconnect with family and friends and unwind from the pressures and responsibilities of day-to-day life.”
KOTI is part of the Mobile Home 2017 project, which explores different meanings of home with unique installations at the Finnish Institutes in Benelux, Berlin, London and Paris. For more details on this innovative project, get in contact with the folks behind the program.
