Hotel Neri - Interview with Charlotte D'hondt

Hotel Neri Relais & Châteaux is set in two historical and aristocratic houses

It was pouring with rain when we met with newly appointed Sales and Marketing Manager Charlotte D'hort at Hotel Neri Relais & Chateaux, Barcelona. After having taken a taxi and ran through the windy roads of the Gothic Quarter, I was more than happy to get dry and dine in one of the most welcoming yet discreet hotels in the city.

The hotel itself oozes romance. From the moment you enter you are presented with historical decadence. Each room is unique, they have their own little twist and decor which is all in the keeping of the hotel. Set in the quaint Sant Felipe Neri Square, it's no surprise that the 5-star hotel is popular among couples. Charlotte notes that "Nobody has quite the exclusivity that Neri does. You are incredibly close to popular spots such as Carrer del Bisbe, yet tucked away". One of their junior suites overlooks the square and they also have a selection of deluxe rooms that come with a terrace. Selective deluxe rooms also come equipped with an outdoor bathtub and are great for special occasions. The team are also on hand to provide additional services to make it as romantic as required.

There are lots to do and see in Barcelona. It's no surprise that the city attracts repeat visitors. Charlotte herself actually arrived in Barcelona from Bruges in Belgium, to learn Spanish in parallel to gaining further work experience in one of the most visited cities in the world. She was very much attracted to the buzz and vibe of the city and although she planned to stay just 6 months, she is here two years later. With a real love for what the city has to offer, a partner and a diverse job at Hotel Neri Relais & Chateaux she was presented with more than enough reasons to stay.

When referring to special nooks in the city Charlotte explains, "I love escaping the busy city centre and admire the view from the top of Montjüic. I enjoy the park as if it was my own garden. Later I love to go down to check out the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, Plaza Espanya and close with the magical fountains at night".

If you're looking for a special or romantic restaurant in the city, Charlotte thoroughly recommends the a Restaurant within the hotel. They have recently changed the dining concept so that there is a more modern approach to Spanish cuisine. Chef Alain Guiard, adds a new dimension of flavours with familiar products and worldwide influences. Take for example the gently poached egg served with a herb salad and cured meat crumble, all packed in a white egg cup. They also serve one of the best torrijas ever. Served in a historical building, dim lights and nestled in a quite spot of town makes for a lovely evening for two.

ElDiset in the Born neighbourhood is another hit for Charlotte. She has a big smile as she recounts the fact that she frequently goes with her partner and adds "The restaurant isn't overtly romantic but has something special." A nice option for Valentine's day or a nice meal of tapas in a cosy wine bar with chic decor.

When summing up Barcelona in 3 words, Charlotte includes multi-dimensional, magical, and artistic. What would you include?

Do consider Hotel Neri if you're looking for an intimate and romantic stay in Barcelona.
