Chapitô à mesa - Panoramic Lisbon

Chapitô à mesa (meaning Chapito The Table) is probably the most dynamic and vigorous project in the Alfama neighbourhood in Lisbon. The restaurant is part of the famous circus arts school Chapitô, notably known for its firm culture, educational activities and social aspects. This is a place that sparks curiosity, unmatched views, vibrant ambiance and great food!

Chapitô à mesa is the type of place where you can be sitting alongside corporate salesmen one day and a group of young circus people the next. As the main host Miguel Ameal and chef Bertílio Gomes would say, you never know what you are walking into every time you enter Chapitô. The ambiance is multicultural, with staff that are very keen on perfection and attentive to the customers. The food which is solely inspired by Portuguese cuisine does justice to the beautiful setting. Not only can diners enjoy a tasty range of homemade fare, but they also do so while admiring a jaw-dropping view across downtown Lisbon and the river beyond. The experience from walking down the winding stairs that leads to the restaurant to the exquisite backdrop makes it an extraordinary place to have on your bucket list.

We tried some fish options to begin with; green salad with mackerel, delicious red shrimp with garlic and clams in its sauce. To end the meal, we indulged in the orange crumble with olive oil ice cream and the pumpkin crumble with mango sauce. We didn't want it to finish, so we stayed longer than usual and ordered a cappuccino with cream on top while enjoying what seemed like spring weather in early November!

Chapitô à mesa is easy to find and located within 2 minutes’ walking distance from the São Jorge Castle, a Moorish castle occupying a commanding hilltop overlooking the historic centre of the Portuguese city of Lisbon and the Tagus River. 30 meters away there is a parking garage on the Loureiro Floor (Lg.do Caldas).

Chapitô à mesa is divided into three concepts: an appetiser house, a terrace/veranda where everything is cooked on a charcoal grill, and on the first floor, the exquisite restaurant we had the privilege to try. Be sure to book in advance, this place gets packed early!!!
