Can Tito Tapes - Tossa de Mar

CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Spanish cuisine has gotten the best of us as summer blissfully made a fast approach in coastal Spain. It was the middle of June when we decided to make a short escape from the intense spirit of Barcelona to Catalonia's wild coast (Costa Brava). We were drifting passed Tossa de Mar's beach, when we happened to see a new restaurant opening on the town's board walk. The smell of fresh fish and the laughter of the employees of Can Tito Tapes captured our attention, so we decided to ask them what they had on the menu for the day. Overly convinced and determined we were in good hands, seats were pulled out on the terrace perpendicular to the beach facing a tall tower symbolic of the Roman Empire that was once presence here.

We tried our first suquet (fish stew), a dish fit for the foodies and mostly popular in this region of the country (main image above). The time of day was perfect as the breeze of the salty sea combining with the smell of suquet: fresh hake, prawns, mussels and baked potatoes kept us reminded that these kind of weekenders are teasers before the big holiday. After we left the plates spotless, the cook came out to greet us and asked how we liked it. Feeling honoured by our compliments, he let us know on others days he cooks the suquets with sea bass, depending on what the local fishermen catch that early morning.

Additional dishes such as the sardines: were drizzled with basil-infused oil, parsley and garlic instead of going with the simple, sturdy sardines on the grill. The mussels were marinated with white wine and black pepper as we dumped the bread in the fish stew at the bottom of the plate. Serving sizes were overly generous and the menu comes with a dessert as well which range from greek yoghourt to seasonal fruits.

Can Tito Tapes has lunch menus available from Monday to Saturday for a mere cost of 15 euros, cheaper than most beach front restaurants in the whole of the Catalan coast. For additional dishes, you can get à la carte and savour more types of shell fish and gourmet fine wines. Genuinely mediterranean, mouth-watering food and amazing views has given us a memorable experience.
