Can Cera Gastro bar - Palma de Mallorca
Can Cera has been thoroughly renovated and equipped into a first class hotel, as well as given a revamp in their lovely dining experience. Can Cera's Gastro Bar is the deserving you need whilst holidaying in the preppy, silver lining island of Mallorca. Be prepared to eat in the luxury hotel's traditional Majorcan patio, with its majestic arches, exuberant howea forsteriana and other lush plants. For all these reasons alone, we decided to save the best for last and reserve our lunch a few hours before taking off on a plane to our next destination.
Contemporary art serenades the walls as do palatial adornments, and the stylish hanging lamps look brilliant with the dark ceilings. Hand knitted blankets are bent over the design chairs in case it gets cool in the late hours of the night. With the building being over 700 years old, Can Cera has one of the longest and most intense histories in all of Palma de Mallorca. A drastic change has been done in the 17th Century, when Italian Renaissance architects inspired the creation of the celebrated patios, giving the building its attractive, yet austere character.
Eating tapas and Majorcan cuisine is a unique experience and most enjoyable as the ancient street leading to the hotel tends to be quiet. First rate ingredients are used with most of the focus revolving around the seasonal produces. The avant-garde presentation is resemblance of the chef's creativity. We had a variety of dishes most representative of the local gastronomy and were happy with the waiter's recommendations. For starters we ordered the crispy bread with ramallet tomato (majorcan hanged tomatoes) and caesar salad with chicken, cheese from Menorca (Minorca) and croutons. For our main dishes we shared the Majorcan style sautéed vegetables with seafood and escalivada - smoked grilled vegetables with feta cheese. Make room for dessert and order their Armagnac chocolate truffles, your palette may require a glass of cava (sparkling wine produced in Catalonia) to extract the fullest potential of its flavour. Our general rule when eating out is, 'when in Rome make like a Roman', so when dining in Mallorca make sure you do as the locals do!
