Groom, Shop and Dine at Barber & Parlour
“The odds of going to the store for a loaf of bread and coming out with only a loaf of bread are three billion to one.”
― Erma Bombeck
Where else might you eat, drink, shop, nap, get a hair cut, watch a film and then go home to brag about it? If it isn't your favourite mall that can result a bit repetitive, then it must be Soho House's all-day hangout Barber & Parlour on Redchurch Street, Shoreditch.
This place features Cheeky Parlour, Hair by Josh Wood and Neville Barbers for your hair-do. Barber & Parlour is a three-floor space in the heart of Shoreditch, offering several grooming options for men and women. You can find the Cheeky Parlour for manicures and pedicures with the full Cheeky range and cult brands from Rodial to Eyeko and Starskin; Cheeky Hair by colourist Josh Wood for colours, cuts, up-dos and blowouts; a Beauty Store with cult products, and a Neville Barber for the male beard trims and cuts.
There is the mixture of art-house, mainstream and classic films showcased at the Electric Cinema downstairs. The cinema has their own menu bites, which is quite different from the norm. Think Portlebay popcorn, Nocellara olives, mini sausages and honey mustard, hummus and pita, and even slow cooked pork belly buns! The 'grab and go' selection upstairs from the cinema can be enjoyed in the Electric Cinema. Have a go at the cocktails whilst watching a film, or even indulge in some Mediterranean imported wine. The cinema can be privately hired for an event you might have in mind, from creative workshops to intimate dinners, castings to perhaps weddings.
We entered Barber & Parlour for a Saturday brunch with the family. The selection was endless with a choice of sweet and salt dishes, in inclusion to cold-pressed juices. We can attest to the restoring powers of the cold-pressed (House Press) juices, perfect for detoxing, cleansing or boosting your energy levels. We especially loved the poached eggs with avocado and chilli, it was very tasty and the portion was good. If you are feeling really hungry, we recommend ordering the Barber’s breakfast: black pudding, chorizo, fried egg, bacon, crushed potato, avocado and tomato. If eggs aren't doing it for the day, there are other options such as: braised lamb, salmon, halloumi burger, quiches in addition to puddings and yoghurts.
This side of Shoreditch district is enjoying a period of growth and has become a reference for creative, like minded individuals. Barber & Parlour has certainly enjoyed being part of East London's current frenzy of life, and we can only hope for more concept spaces like these across London. It is convenient, has good quality and doesn't require much planning.
